Consulate firm on non-political stand
The Philippine Consulate yesterday disclaimed talks perpetrated by certain business entities that a rally protesting the continued stay of President Josepth Estrada in office is being organized right at the consular office.
In an official statement, the Consulate disclosed it continues to assume a non-political position in connection with issues involving the Philippine President due to the fact that the nature of its work entails rendering services to all overseas Filipino workers regardless of their political affiliations.
According to consulate officials, while it is recognized that it is the right of any Filipino to voice out his or her political opinions, any attempt to involve the Consulate in partisan political activities can only be the work of parties out to discredit the office in order to further their own agenda.
The Consulate, therefore, enjoins the public not to listen to such hearsays or to confirm with the office the veracity of such rumors.
