Groups bat for increased health awareness
Citing the growing concerns on various health issues, at least 15 agencies involved in the field of medicine will hold a simultaneous activities on Saturday at the Hyatt Regency Saipan.
Power 99 FM and The Rock Senior Account Executive Chris Belanger yesterday said the Health and Fitness Fair 2001 is a collaborative effort of health organizations, health insurance providers and health experts in the Northern Marianas.
The fair will provide the community on-hand information and variety of health-related and fitness topics including preventative measures, treatments and demonstrations.
Organizations participating in the Third Annual Health and Fitness Fair include Pacific Care Asia-Pacific, Commonwealth Health Center, PHI Pharmacy, Club Elan, Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse, Marianas Health Services, Moylans Insurance among others.
These teams, Mr. Belanger said will thoroughly discuss the latest technology on acupuncture, updates on food and nutrition, breast and cervical cancer, dental and the Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome.
The forum is part of the ongoing effort of the government to educate the community on various health-related issues believed to be affecting hundreds of individuals on the island.
Based on the reports of the health department, there remains a growing concern on obesity, diabetes, and heart problems among members of the CNMI community.
These health problems can be attributed to the so-called lifestyle of the islanders and the nutritional value of foods they consume, the report added.
“This is to make sure that the people are aware and be conscious about their health,” the account executive said.
The health department has attested to these facts and efforts have been stepped up to assist and prevent the cause of these health problems, said Mr. Belanger.
