Get Covered Surf revenged a regular season defeat by the PCB Warriors to advance to the second round of the play-offs to face the pennant champion, Phenoms.

Savvy veterans, Peter Mendiola led GCS with a game high 23 points and 8 rebounds most coming during the crucial moments of the game.

PCB’s schedule might have played a major factor in their defeat, having not played over a month, due to make-up games and the weather. PCB appeared sluggish towards the end of the game, forcing shots and turnovers.

Nonetheless, GCS’ slowdown offense, also was a factor as PCB is eliminated while GCS will take on Phenoms this Friday at 5:30pm. Contributing for the winner were James Villarin and Nathan Sablan with 14 points, 11 boards, 8 steals and 10 points, 9 rebounds respectively.

For PCB, runner-up scoring champion. Ed Arriola and brother Ad paced the way with 29 combined points.

Sixers smash Surf Turf, 90-47

John Sablan scored a play-off high, 38 points, including 4 consecutive 3-pointers in the closing minutes of the game to send the Sixers into the second round of the playoffs.

The undermanned Surf Turf team which suited only six players could not match the waves of Sixers players as coach Dave Sablan platooned every player in his roster into the game.

Rebound champion, Henry Sablan whom amassed a record 40 rebounds in a single game last week, chipped in with 16 points and 10 rebounds.

For Surf Turf, Ernesto Villarin was the top gun, pumping in 18 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 steals. Waiting for the Sixers will be the 6-time Rotary Club youth champions, Ol’Aces.

In their first match of the season, the Aces beat them handily, 70-59, but with the Aces team and scoring leader Carlos Aguon gone to the military, the team will be faced with a tough challenge. Ol’Aces and Sixers match up will be at 7:00pm this Friday night.
