Economic contributions of 2 firms commended

Two CNMI-based companies earned commendations from the Saipan and Northern Islands Municipal Council for their vital role in the growth of the local economy.

Council members, through a commemorative resolution, paid recognition to the Tan Holdings Corporation and Suwaso Corporation, operator of Coral Ocean Point Resort.

The Council cited their contributions to the development of the Northern Marianas especially at a time of financial difficulties and business slowdown.

Local leaders led by Council Chair Gregorio V. Deleon Guerrero also acknowledged the dynamic leadership behind THC namely its Chairman Tan Siu Lin, Deputy Chief Executive Officer Henry Tan, President Willie Tan, and Executive Vice President Jerry Tan.

The Suwaso Corp. management headed by President Akio Hara, Vice President/Secretary Juan S. Tenorio, and general managers Kiyoshige Terada, Koichi Hanabusa, and Yoshiro Kishimoto were also hailed for their untiring support to the CNMI’s tourism industry.

THC is engaged in hotels and apartment operations, travel agency, financing, insurance, aircraft ground handling, freight forwarding, newspaper publishing, retailer and wholesaler, amusement, real estate developer, general warehouse, garment manufacturing, and ice cream store.

For more than a decade now, the corporation has actively participated in civic and community-related endeavors. To name few, it has contributed to the American Red Cross, Relay for Life, Make-A-Wish Foundation, Churches, Education, Sports, public park improvement and other projects.

A business entity that operates a hotel, an 18-hole championship golf course, restaurant and international championship tennis, Suwaso Corp. has also exerted efforts to step up its community involvement.

The corporation, which hosts a total workforce of 31 locals and 81 nonresident workers, has donated street lights for the Koblerville areas, gift certificates for the CNMI Boys Scouts and Marianas High School Senior Class of 2001, San Antonio Church Parish for hosting golf tournament, adopted-a-school program (Koblerville Elementary School), provided two golf carts to the Saipan Mayor’s office for the July 4 parade and numerous donations to several schools in the CNMI.
