Whoever said hangers are used to, as the name implies, hang clothes? A close relative of a Saipan minor apparently thinks the item can be used in many other things, including but not limited to, beating a child.

A seventh grade Hopwood Junior High School student from San Antonio attended classes Tuesday with bruise marks all over her body.

School authorities, based on an interview with the child, suspect the injuries were caused by the 12-year-old’s close relative.

According to police records, the child may have possibly been abused Monday by a female relative.

Department of Public Safety spokesperson Cecil Celes reported yesterday the child came to school Tuesday with abrasions evident on different portions of her body, particularly in the leg and arm areas.

When a school counselor asked the student how she developed the fresh bruises, the child then admitted a relative had beaten her up by fist and later on with a hanger.

HJHS administrators wasted no time in contacting the Division of Youth Services and police for assistance. Authorities are currently investigating the possible child abuse case. (MM)
