Marlins trample Totuts in DARE Softball meet
As part of efforts to win the war against “drugs and violence” among local youths, DARE sponsored a local softball tournament, participated in by public and private schools from throughout the Northern Marianas.
Although Mt. Carmel School and Whispering Palm School were the only private educational institutions that entered teams in the competition, participants nevertheless had fun and developed camaraderie and strong sportsmanship.
The tournament ended with Kagman Elementary School Blue Marlins defeating the defending champion DanDan Elementary School Totuts in two games to become the 3rd Annual DARE Coed Softball Champion.
Kagman coach Ligo Fa’asa encountered tough obstacles during the tournament but managed to keep her players’ composure to beat a strong DanDan and Garapan Elementary School teams.
DanDan coach Joseph Roberto stated that this year’s tournament was tough compared to last year. Male and Female Most Valuable Player Honors went to Dion “Prime Time” Camacho and Felishia “Just Say No” Camacho.
Garapan Elementary School took 3rd place while the 4th place went to Kagman Elementary School Blue Marlins II, and Koblerville Elementary School Hugging Umangs took the 5th slot.
The most important trophy — the Sportsmanship Trophy — went to Tinian Elementary School Colts. The team showed a good sportsmanship during the games.
The tournament was made possible by the Saipan DARE Program, Department of Public Safety, Public School System, DCCA-Sports Division, Glorina Monkeya, and the parents and guardians who gave their support to the children in this worthwhile activity.
