Scholarship up for grabs
An annual educational award of $2,500 has been established by the Christian Science Monitor to honor the inspired and selfless service of a college-bound young woman, who is graduating from high school and has made a significant contribution to the well-being of young people in her community.
The award also covers the recipient’s travel expenses to attend the National Foundation for Women Legislator’s Annual Conference in the fall of 2001.
Both The Christian Science Monitor and the National Foundation for Women Legislators (NFWL) are committed to nurturing and protecting the lives of young people in America, supporting initiatives that promotes feelings of hope among young people, and responding to the need for legislative remedies that would protect the rights and welfare of children.
Mary Baker Eddy founded the Monitor in 1908. Headquartered in Boston, it is constructive, and insightful reporting. Its care in reporting possible solutions-not just problems-adds perspective and balance often missing in other news media.
NFWL is a non-partisan organization that provides educational programs to members of the National Order of Women Legislators-current and former state legislators-women serving as members of Congress, governors, and lt. governors. Founded in 1938, NFWL is the first and only women’s legislative organization and one of the oldest professional women’s organizations in the country.
The Awards Committee will consider outstanding volunteer or paid service work that promotes the welfare of young people or demonstrated leadership in creating a new approach, program, strategy, or initiative that benefits them.
