The Northern Yankees displayed their power at the plate en route to a 17-10 beating over the UMDA Aces last Monday night at the Francisco M. Palacios Baseball Field. The Yankees bats sizzled as they scored in seven of the nine innings.
The Aces were hot at the start of the ball game as they scored 3 runs in both the second and third innings, and posted another run in the bottom of the fourth.
Down 6-4 in fourth, Yankees designated hitter Chris Camacho stepped up to the plate and connected for a solo home run off Aces pitcher Elmer Sablan. It was a sign of things to come for the Yankees, and it didn’t take long before it showed.
In the very next inning, slugger Greg Camacho also rounded the bases with a solo shot of his own to pull his team within 1 run, 7-6.
The Yankees broke the game wide open in the top of the sixth inning as they crossed the plate 5 more times to take an 11-7 lead.
They would later extend their lead in the eighth inning as they scored 2 more runs for a 13-7 lead.
But the Yankees weren’t satisfied with their lead as they scored 4 more runs in the ninth inning, courtesy of a 2 run single by Bob Lizama, an RBI triple by Clifton Silil, and an RBI by Mike Guerrero.
The Aces however wouldn’t go away quietly as they scored 3 runs in their final at bats, but it wasn’t enough as the Yankees lead was just too much to handle.
Chris Camacho led the Yankees as he went 3-for-4 with a homerun, 3 runs scored and 2 runs batted in. Silil also had a solid night at the plate with a 3-for-6 performance, which included a triple, 3 runs scored, and 2 runs batted in, while teammate Robert Bansil posted the same numbers, the only difference was the 2 runs he scored.
Joe Camacho led the Aces with a 4-for-5 hitting performance. He had a triple, a double and scored 2 runs. He also drove in a run. Teammate Tony Celis also contributed with a 3-for-5 outing, which included 3 doubles, 2 runs and a run batted in.
The Aces were coming off a victory last Friday over the Kautz Glass Glazers, 7-6.
Phil Celis led their attack going 2-for-3 with a triple and 2 runs, while Tony Celis went 4-for-5 with a run scored and 2 stolen bases.
Saipan Major League Action will continue tonight as the Marpac Pirates take on the Glazers. The Pirates can take sole possession of first place with a victory.
