Benevente yields MGA April Ace of the Month to Sasaki
The Mangachung Golf Association held their April “Ace” tournament this past Sunday, April 21 at the Kingfisher Golf Links.
Eleven members came out and gave it their all for the bragging rights of being named the golfer of the month and by the end of the day, Tony Benavente shot a brilliant gross score of 80, with his 20 handicap and posted a fabulous net score of 60.
He shot 41 at the front and 39 at the back. Second place was a tie between Ed Conception and Mark Sasaki, both came in with a net score of 67, however, Ed Conception came out on top with a par in Hole No. 18, while Sasaki settled for a boggy and third place.
Conception scored 45 at the front and 39 at the back for a gross of 84 and with his 17 handicap came out with a net of 67. Sasaki, on the other hand, had a 47 at the front and improved it by four strokes at the back with a 43 and finished with a gross score of 90 and with his 23 handicap, had a net of 67.
Because Benevente and Conception have already won the past two months Ace of the Month tourneys, Sasaki earned April Ace of the Month honors by scoring the third best net score.
By virtue of the Club Tournament Rules, “a player can only win the Ace of the Month once”. John “Tolifa” Guerrero was not at his best for the April Ace, but gave his playing partners a thrill of a lifetime by burying a “Hole-In-One!” on the par three 15th Hole. Guerrero also won three out of the four “Closest to the Pin” contest and Sasaki bagged the other one. The longest drive contest went to John Terlaje and the putter of the day went to Joe Guerrero. The club also welcomed its newest member, Phil Sablan, during the event.
