Restaurant league meeting today

The 2004 Inter-Restaurant Basketball League will hold its final meeting at 2pm today at Country House Restaurant.

Representatives of participating teams are requested to attend the meeting. Team rosters, entrance fee, players’ proof of employment will also be due this day.

Fil-Taga monthly ace set this Sunday

The Fil-Taga Golfers Association will hold its May Ace of the Month Tournament this coming Sunday, May 16, at the Marianas Country Club.

Tournament director Father Many Corcuera has set the show time for the May tournament at 11am with tee time scheduled 30 minutes later at 11:30am.

DFS tennis kicks off May 21

The Northern Mariana Islands Tennis Association will host the 23rd Annual DFS Micronesian Tennis Championships beginning on May 21.

The longest-running tennis tournament on Saipan will be held on two weekends May 21-23 and May 29-31. The first weekend will feature action in the adult doubles and junior singles, while the second week will be for adult singles and junior doubles.

Swim lessons up

The Saipan Swim Club will once again attempt to make swimmers of land-lovers.

Starting on June 7 through 18, the SSC will conduct swim lessons from 7:30am to 8:30am at the Kan Pacific Swimming Pool in Marpi.

To pre-register please call either Bill Sakovich at 322-9990 or Mike Villagomez at 256-5668 or leave a message on the answering machines. Those interested are requested to leave their names and other pertinent information like level of swimming and contact numbers.

Rotary golf tourney this Saturday

The 6th Annual Rotary Club of Saipan Goodwill Golf Tournament will tee off this Saturday at the Coral Ocean Point Resort Golf Course.

A total of six flights are up for grabs in the tournament. They are Championship Flight for players with 0-8 handicap; A Flight for players with 9-13 handicap; B Flight for players 14-18 handicap; C Flight for players 19 handicap and up; Ladies Flight and Seniors Flight for golfers 55 years old and up.

First place in each category receives $500 and a trophy, while second place and third place takes home $300 and $200, respectively, plus trophies.

Early registration costs $125 and should be paid no later than May 10. Late registration, meanwhile, costs $150. Showtime is set at 10:30am and shotgun start begins at exactly 12pm.

UFO caging eyes May 30 start

The United Filipino Organization is revving up for a May 30 start for its 5th Annual UFO Inter-Organization Basketball League.

The start of the popular all-Filipino cage league was designed so that the league will be at full throttle for the 106th Philippine Independence Day celebrations on June 12.

The May 30 opening would also coincide with the planned 2004 Palarong Filipino festivities of the Filipino community.
