Pacific Development Inc. continued to showcase its generosity to the youth, donating $5,000 to six schools and the NMI Museum last Tuesday afternoon at the Hafa Adai Hotel Hanna Restaurant.

Schools receiving financial assistance were Saipan International School, Mt. Carmel High School, Marianas High School, Kagman High School, the Northern Marianas College, and Saipan Southern High School. The $5,000 was divided among the schools and the museum.

PDI general manager Yoichi Matsumura said the donation was part of the Educational Tax Credit program, which provides corporations the opportunity to assist schools while getting tax exemptions.

“This is a good program and it’s better to know that money will be used to pay for educational purposes,” he said. “I would like to give all the schools, but the program limits us to donate not more than $5,000.”

Matsumura said the schools were selected because of their involvement in several exchange programs dealing with students and schools in Japan.

“We need their assistance when it comes to greeting students from Japan, and this donation will help build a good relationship,” he said.

“PDI is grateful and appreciates the support we get from the schools and we request for continual support,” said PDI vice president Jesus Guerrero.

Dr. James Denight, principal of Marianas High School, said the donation is “very much appreciated” and will be used to replenish funds used for the school’s exchange program.

“The funds will be used to further enhance cultural exchange program. We hold welcoming parties and other events, and those require funding,” he said.

NMC received $1,500, the highest compared with the other recipients. The other schools and the NMI Museum received between $800 and $1,000.

Matsumura said he intends to assist elementary and junior high schools in the future.
