The Department of Public Safety Traffic Section is urging drivers to be careful while traveling along Beach Road Garapan on June 15 as the highway will be closed for a parade honoring veterans of the Battles of Saipan and Tinian.

According to DPS public information officer Rose A. Hocog, the road will be closed from the Quartermaster intersection to the American Memorial Park intersection in Garapan beginning 2pm to give way to the parade.

Hocog said all secondary road intersections along the way would also be closed off until the end of the parade.

“The road closures are identical to the closures featured during the past Liberation Day parades,” she said.

The DPS urges the public to find alternative routes during the closure.

Also to be honored during the parade, which begins at 3:30pm, are veterans of other World War II Pacific campaigns.

A formal ceremony commemorating the 60th anniversary of World War II Battles of Saipan and Tinian will follow at the American Memorial Park, featuring Enola Gay pilot Gen. Paul Tibbets as keynote speaker.

Events for the evening also include dancing to music of the 1940s and a Laser Light Show.
