The 2004 Taste of the Marianas will close its curtains tomorrow night, but not before playing host to individuals vying for a year’s worth of bragging rights and prizes in the Eating Contest.

The contest will be held from 6:30pm to 8:30pm at the American Memorial Park Bell Tower Field.

According to the Marianas Visitors Authority, participation is limited to the first 15 registrants who must submit a completed application form, a waiver form, and a $5 entrance fee.

The competition features a four-course meal that includes salad, soup, main course, and dessert. Each participant is required to completely finish the first course prior to moving forward to the next entrée.

MVA officials disclosed that plastic utensils and paper products will be used during the competition, and that water will be provided for each participant prior to the competition.

The participant who clocks in the fastest time in finishing the four courses wins $100 worth of tokens, while second and third place finishers will bag $75 and $50 worth of tokens.

According to Ed Johnson of MVA, food for the competition comes courtesy of Hyatt Regency Saipan.

Tomorrow marks the fifth Saturday for the 2004 Taste of the Marianas, which kicked off on May 15.

Other highlights include the Bartenders Cocktail Competition, Spicy Titiyas and Coco Making contests, the Pie Eating Contest, and the Barbeque Cookoff.

The Taste also features various live entertainment—music and dance—as well as recipes from around the world.

Various vendors with booths at the event grounds include Keeraku Restaurant, Capricciosa/Tony Roma’s, Herman’s Modern Bakery, Hyatt Regency Saipan, Champ’s Cool Station, Chapinos, D’Elegance, Ty & Tia, Taste of India, Saipan World Resort, Pacific Islands Club, Hamilton’s Restaurant, Thai House, Poon’s Restaurant, Coral Ocean Point, Hula Girl, Aqua Resort Club, MARPAC, Pacific Trading Co., the NMI Bartenders Association, and Wine Cellar.

All items being sold at the Taste of the Marianas are purchased with tokens worth $1 apiece. A money exchange booth is located within the premises.
