Man sentenced to 15 months in prison

The U.S. District Court sentenced a man convicted on a drug-related charge to 15 months in prison.

The U.S. District Court sentenced a man convicted on a drug-related charge to 15 months in prison.

Chief Judge Alex R. Munson imposed the prison term on Jesse A. Villagomez, who pleaded guilty on a count of conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute a controlled substance, particularly methamphetamine hydrochloride or “ice.”

Munson also placed Villagomez on three years of supervised release, which would take effect after the defendant completes serving the prison term. The judge also tasked Villagomez to perform 400 hours of community service.

The judge directed Villagomez to subject himself to a drug test within 15 days after his release from prison and to at least two periodic drug tests afterwards. Munson ordered Villagomez to refrain from using illegal drugs.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Jamie Bowers asked the court to impose 18 months imprisonment on Villagomez, but the defendant’s lawyer, Loren Sutton, sought a lower sentence.

After the imposition of the 15-month prison term on the defendant, Bowers asked the court to dismiss two other criminal counts against Villagomez, which the judge granted.
