Aqua Walk scuttled, 10K still on
Expected rough weather has sunk SAIWAI’s plans to hold the Aqua Walk tomorrow morning but it will still stage the 10K Sunset Walk in the afternoon.
The local walking association was supposed to hold the twin events this Saturday in conjunction with the celebration of its 3rd Annual Pan Pacific IVV Saipan Festival.
With the postponement of the Aqua Walk to August 21, the 10K Sunset Walk becomes the main event and it starts from the Chamolinian Cultural Village at 4:30pm.
“It’s unfortunate that due to expected high surf and strong current, the Aqua Walk this Saturday would have to be cancelled. There has been great enthusiasm for the Aqua Walk and we’re sorry this had to happen. I hope people would attend the Sunset Walk instead in the afternoon,” said SAIWAI secretary Mario Espeleta.
Like all SAIWAI activities, the International Federation of Popular Sports or IVV will be sanctioning the lone event to commemorate the 3rd Annual Pan Pacific IVV Saipan Festival.
IVV members will receive credit for joining the event. The IVV has member walking clubs in the U.S., Canada, Brazil, Japan, South Korea, Turkey, Nepal, Australia, New Zealand, the CNMI and 29 other European countries.

Other walking events SAIWAI has slated for the rest of the year are the 3rd Annual Foundation and Family Day Walk on August 21; the Heart of the Marianas Fitness Fair Walk on September 25; and the 4th Annual Thanksgiving Day Walk on November 20.
SAIWAI was incorporated as a non-profit corporation on July 27, 2001 and was established to promote public health through non-competitive walking.
