Hutton cleared in harassment complaint
CNMI chief prosecutor David Hutton has been cleared in an investigation on a sexual harassment complaint filed against him by a female attorney formerly working for the Attorney General’s Office.
Acting AG Clyde Lemons Jr. disclosed the information in a media release yesterday, a day after the AGO received the results of the probe.
“The investigation has been completed,” Lemons said. “The charges against Hutton were determined to be unfounded.”
Lemons said that, while investigations on Equal Employment Opportunity Commission cases are normally confidential, the AGO had to release the outcome of the probe because the existence of the complaint has been made public.
The Office of Personnel Management earlier confirmed the existence of the complaint filed by the attorney, whose name is being withheld.
OPM director Juan I. Tenorio earlier disclosed that he had tasked Frank Gibson, the chief investigator for the CNMI’s Equal Employment Opportunity program, to conduct the probe.
He refused, however, to comment when asked for details about the allegation that became the basis for the sexual harassment complaint.
Hutton also refused to comment on the complaint, but said the female attorney last worked for the AGO on May 28. The attorney had worked under Hutton, who heads the AGO’s Criminal Division.
