The Public School System recently submitted to the Department of Education a grant application for over $12,000 that will be used to acquire up-to-date school books.

The PSS indicated in its application that the federal grant is intended to support its Improving Literacy Through School Libraries Program, and will be used to purchase between 400 to 600 books for the PSS libraries.

The application was reviewed by the Board of Education last Wednesday, and was passed unanimously. The board indicated that the funds will supply 21 public school libraries with 20-30 books apiece.

If approved, the PSS would receive a total of $12,086 to fund its program. (Shan Seman)
