Pepsi King of the Lanes returns next week

The July edition of the Pepsi King of the Lanes will roll-off at the Saipan Bowling Center on Sunday, July 25, and Monday, July 26.
SBA officer and tournament director Ross Zapanta said that Sunday’s registration would begin at 4pm, while Monday’s registration starts at 6pm. Awarding ceremonies immediately follow the end of competition on Monday.
Zapanta also noted that bowlers would be limited to 70 on Sunday and then 52 on Monday. Bowlers who did not play Sunday will be given priority on Monday.
The entry fee is $15. First place is guaranteed $100 but it could go up to as much $150 depending on the number of participants.
The Pepsi King of the Lanes Tournament aims to crown 12 monthly champions through the course of the year.
Cash prizes will be up for grabs in the monthly tournament, which alternates between Saipan Bowling Center and the Capitol Bowling Center.
The top bowlers of the year, based on SBA’s Bowler Ranking System, will then duke it out in the year-end 2004 King of the Lanes Tournament, where a purse not lower than $1,000 awaits the overall champion. Pacific Trading Co. and its general manager Charles Cepeda have committed over $6,000 for the yearlong bowling tournament.

Former youth bowler Simon Manacop was hailed January Pepsi Kings of the Lanes champion, while current CNMI youth bowling team members Ruselle and younger brother Raymond Zapanta bagged the titles in February, March and April editions of the tournament. In May Alex Castro surprised everyone and took home the title, while last month it was John Santos’ turn to win the top prize.
