Golf tournament is full of champions
Due to what has been described as a “tremendous” response by the organizing committee of the 2004 Tournament of Champions, the roster slots available for this year’s event are officially full, but there is still a chance for those wishing to join the champions on the links.
With only a couple of days remaining until the golfers tee off, now is the time to sign up for the waiting list for one of the area’s premiere golfing events. The committee announced that there will be a waiting list for the tournament, but spaces will be limited.
Players selected from the waiting list will be called on a ‘first come, first serve’ basis and will be notified of their status no later than 5pm on Friday, July 30.
There is still a way to enter the tournament as a golfer, however; as the committee is reserving slots for the event sponsors as a part of their tournament package.
As a reminder, under no circumstances will walk-in registrations will be accepted at the courses on either of the play days.
If you are not intending on golfing, you may also take part in the Calcutta “Bidding” for players in the Championship Flight. Anyone can bid on the players in this flight that are paid by 6pm on Friday, July 30, when the bidding will begin at AJ’s (Jonny’s Beach Club).
Based on the success of last year’s Calcutta, tournament organizers are bringing the format back. From the money collected, 25 percent will go to the ToC. Of the remaining pool, 50 percent will go to the first place bid winner, 30 percent to the second place bid winner and 20 percent to the third place winner.
Last year there were about 20 players in the flight, and this year looks to possibly top that number. With the minimum bid starting at $100 per player, there’s sure to be a happy ending for some lucky bidder.
