Palacios kids honored for educational achievements
The 8th Saipan and Northern Islands Municipal Council honored the Palacios children— Dean Jess, Deana Sylveria and Davina Mendiola Palacios—and adopted a series of resolutions recognizing, congratulating and commending them for their educational achievements.
The resolution recognizes Dean Jess for graduating as salutatorian of the Marianas Baptist Academy last May 28 and for his admission to Stanford University. Deana Sylveria, a recipient of the principal’s leadership award and president’s education award program, was also recognized for graduating at Marianas High School last May 7. Aside from these two awards, Deana also was honored for receiving the MHS outstanding academic achievement plum as a top 10 student on graduation day.
Deanna is listed in the Who’s Who among American high school students and is also a recipient of a $3,000 renewable award from the University of Arizona excellence scholarship program. Deanna has been admitted as a pre-business major at the Eller College of Business and Public Administration at the University of Arizona.
Their sibling Davina, who graduated at Marianas Baptist Academy with honors, is a junior at the University of Washington, School of Business.

The resolution further recognizes the parents of the Palacios children—David Sablan Palacios and Margarita Benavente Mendiola Palacios.
The resolutions concluded by saying that the members of the municipal council join the people of the CNMI in extending special recognition to the three Palacios children for their educational achievements and for bringing national honor and distinction to the people of the Commonwealth and their family members at their respective schools.
The resolutions were certified by chairman Gregorio V. Deleon Guerrero and vice chairman David A. Indalecio and attested by secretary Antonia M. Tudela.
