NMC to orient new students on Wednesday
The Northern Marianas College will begin orientation for all new students on Aug. 11, to include the introduction of the newly appointed president, Antonio V. Deleon Guerrero.
The orientation will be held at the student center from 8:30am-12:30pm.
The students will also be introduced to several faculty members and staff of the college, including Dean for Student Development Kurt Barnes and Jack Kiyoshi, president of the Associated Students of NMC.
They will also be toured around campus, visiting the NMC bookstore, counseling, career center, cantina, president’s office, library, office of admissions record and financial aid, student support services, TV and film studio, computer lab, and the gym.
The activities will include a digital slideshow presentation from the Office of Student Activities and Leadership. The slideshow will feature annual events held at the college.
In a separate activity, students will be required to bring athletic shoes with them to participate in the ROPES and Team-building exercises in the gym.
“Students will just need comfortable clothing and athletic shoes for [the] exercises in the gym,” said Adrayanne Sablan, program coordinator for OSAL.
Ed Calvo will be facilitating these exercises and the activities will be tailored to help new students adjust and succeed in college, she added.
Orientation will continue on Aug. 12 with information on the counseling program and services and college success strategies.
“College success strategies will focus on time management and college success tips to help new students have a successful first year in college and meet the challenges during their college experience at NMC,” said Sablan.
Also included in the activity will be the NMC student email sign-up, where students will be informed on activities and issues facing the college though their email account. Picture-taking for student ID cards will be held at the student center soon after.
The orientation will kick off with a barbeque party hosted by the NMC family in honor of the new students. Ace Elameto will be on hand to provide entertainment for the event.
“Some faculty will be barbequing. This is something new, to increase faculty and student interaction,” said Adryann Joe Sablan.
New students are urged to attend the orientation.
