The Northern Marianas College’s Beta Lambda Psi Chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa is now opening its ranks to interested student of NMC who wants to join the college’s first ever honor society club.

Members of the club are recognized for their excellence in academics and leadership skills. Also, members are eligible for benefits in scholarships exceeding $35 million annually, publication in the National Dean’s List, and free access to cutting-edge online benefits, among others.

PTK officers and advisors are currently accepting applications from interested individuals. Although the chapter holds no deadline for applications, the induction for new members will be determined upon completion of the application and membership requirements.

Interested students are required to be currently enrolled in NMC, must have completed at least 15 credits, with a 3.5 GPA. However, if a student fails to meet these requirements, he or she may become a provisional member of the local chapter in NMC.

Induction for new members for fall semester will be held on Nov. 13. Another induction ceremony will be held during the spring semester for new members who have not met the requirements during the fall semester.

Phi Theta Kappa, established almost 100 years ago, is the oldest and most prestigious honor society serving over 1,100 two-year colleges around the world.

The purpose of Phi Theta Kappa is to recognize and encourage the academic achievements of two-year college students and to provide opportunities for individual growth and development through honor, leadership, and service programming.

According to its website, PTK provides members the opportunity to develop leadership and service in an intellectual climate for the exchange of ideas and ideals, for lively fellowship for scholars, and for stimulation of interest in continuing academic excellence. (Cassie DLG Fejeran)
