NMITFF schools fall relay on Sept. 18

The Northern Marianas Track and Field Federation recently announced that it will hold its first All Schools Fall Island Relay pm Sept. 18 to allow schools sufficient time to prepare for the event. It was originally scheduled to take place last Aug. 28.

The event would feature four categories for both the boys and girls divisions.

Schools may form teams for both division in the 9-and-under, 11-and-under-14-and-under, and 18-and-under age groups.

Teams of about five students will begin their push to reign supreme at the American Memorial Park. The number of students per team, however, has yet to be confirmed.

Each member will run a mile at a time, switching off with another team member when the said distance has been completed.

Teams will continue switching off until its final member completes the final leg of the race at the newly built Oleai Sports Complex built track and field facility.

Each team is required to have a designated vehicle that would follow the team from the starting point to the track oval. The vehicle would also serve to pick up and drop runners at switch-off points throughout the race.

The NMITFF board will hold a meeting sometime soon to discuss the start time of the race and other elements of the event as well.

For more information, contact board members Kurt Barnes at 234-5498 ext. 1348, Elias Rangamar at 664-2503, or James Lee at 483-0290.
