DES Open House, PTA meeting today

This is to inform the parents and guardians of students at the Dandan Elementary School that the School Year 2004-2005 Open House is scheduled today, Sept. 2, from 5:30pm to 6:30pm followed by a PTA meeting at 6:30pm in the school cafeteria.

Parents/Guardians of Dandan Elementary School are encouraged to attend this important meeting. Should you have any question, contact the school at 664-5025.

Chacha PTSA meeting today

The administration of Chacha Oceanview Junior High School would like to inform all parents, guardians, students, and the community that it will hold its PTSA meeting today, Sept. 2, 2004. If you have any questions or concerns call 664-4100, 664-4105 or 664-4106.

OWWA health screening on Sunday

The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration of the Philippine Overseas Labor Office is sponsoring a health screening for overseas Filipino workers this Sunday, Sept. 5, 9am to 12:30pm, at the Nauru Building, Susupe.

OFWs who would like to have their blood sugar tested are advised to fast (not to take in any food or water) from midnight up to the time of their testing.

PSS SPED program meeting set

The Public School System’s Special Education Program will be conducting a Special Education State Advisory Panel meeting on Sept. 9, 11am-3pm, at the Pacific Gardenia

The meeting is open to the public. The agenda for this meeting will be passed out at the meeting.

NMI delegates to ‘RP Invasion’ seek help

The “Philippine Invasion” will be held in Manila, the Philippines on Sept. 9-12, hosted by Every Nation Ministries. Missionaries and Christian delegates from around the world, including members of Life in the Son Christian Fellowship-Saipan, will be attending the convention.

DEQ cleanup on Saturday

The Division of Environmental Quality’s Cleanup Brigade will be at it again, picking up trash at the Lally 4 Beach south to Hopwood Jr. High School.

Individuals who would like to volunteer their time to clean up and beautify the island are encouraged to meet the DEQ representative in the bright green t-shirt on Saturday, Sept. 4, at 8am at the Lally 4 Beach Pavilion.

The brigade cleans until 10am and breaks for drinks, then continues if needed.

This month, outstanding brigade members who participated in at least 10 monthly cleanups will receive a brigade cap and those who participated at least three times will receive a bright green brigade shirt, DEQ said.

“This is a cleanup that shouldn’t be missed. So join DEQ’s Cleanup Brigade and ‘Pick It Up!’” said the agency in a statement.

September events at GES

Cultural Heritage Month ends with Cultural Day at the Garapan Elementary School. If parents would like to prepare booths or presentations, call GES at 664-3955.

* Sept. 6, 2004—there will be no classes due to Labor Day;
* Sept. 7, 2004, is Mid Progress Report Day;
* Sept. 10, 2004, is the deadline for Free Meal Applications;
* Sept. 10, 2004—GES will be having a special flag ceremony in remembrance of 9/11. “We will wear patriotic colors.”
* Sept. 15, 2004 is Pizza Hut Night. Proceeds will help fund this year’s handbook for parents/students.
* The week of Sept. 20, 2004 will be school picture week.
* Sept. 30, 2004 is PTA Night at 6pm in the school cafeteria.

More information regarding these activities will be disseminated as the month progresses, the school said in a statement.

The school also extended its gratitude to 99 Cent Supermarket, which donated rakes to teachers for the campus clean p after Supertyphoon Chaba and to the Saipan Mayor’s Office for throwing away the debris from the typhoon.

Youth Learning Center registration starts

The Garapan Youth Learning Center began its open-house/registration beginning Aug. 30 up to Sept. 3, from 9am to 4:30pm. Interested parents are encouraged to visit the center. The center provides services on tutoring in general subjects, computer lab, sports, guidance and counseling and other related educational activities. Services are free of charge and available to youth from grade levels 1st through 12th. For more information contact 664-7883.
