Is this the best that you can do?

Shame on you, Senator Adriano! As an elected official, you’re supposed to be looking out for the public’s best interests. You’re supposed to set a good example for us youths to follow. Instead, you’re showing all the CNMI youths a fine example of a lousy public official who cares nothing about protecting the CNMI people. Your comment that the public is driving away investors is based on ignorance. What’s wrong with concerned citizens wanting more information to make sure they got the best deal out of this pozzolan mining? How would we know for sure unless a study is conducted to find out how much the pozzolan is really worth? What’s wrong with us wanting to make sure that our island will not be destroyed from the mining? Why should you mind that the public is involved? You should listen to the public because they voted you into office to serve all of us.

Shame on the MPLA Board for granting Azmar another 60 days to submit documents. Mrs. Ana Demapan-Castro, you were right at the start by not agreeing to grant Azmar a permit, but you got scared that investors would be scared away. Are you even sure that Azmar is a real investor? Pete Perez is right—what kind of investor is one who has no money and no mining experience?

My grandparents, parents, and many relatives call Pagan and the Northern Islands “home.” I have been to the Northern Islands and have come to understand why my family loves the Northern Islands. They are so beautiful. But how long can we call the Northern Islands beautiful if our public officials’ only concern is making money fast? To the CNMI youths of Rota, Tinian and Saipan—next time you see Senators Joaquin Adriano, Luis Crisostomo, and Joseph Mendiola, ask them if this is the best that they can do for the people of the CNMI. If the answer is “yes,” then it’s time to look for true leaders next election!
