Typhoon results in cancellation of anger management program
The Community Guidance Center has postponed what would have been the first-ever Anger Management Program for Women that was originally slated to begin yesterday at the CGC conference room.
According to Henry Cabrera, CGC social worker assistant, sessions were postponed due to the need for assistants at the relief center in Susupe. “We postponed the [program] because we’re helping out with the [relief center] since the typhoon,” said Cabrera.
The program was supposed to run from Sept. 9 through Oct. 27. Cabrera did not specify a future date for the seminar.
Once it pushes through, though, the sessions will be conducted by three counselors from the center. Women who enroll in the program would also have an easier time relating with their counselors, according to Cabrera, since “all three professional counselors in the program will be women.”
The program will cover topics similar to the Anger Management Program for Men during the eight-week session.
Participants will be introduced to the program and the consultants conducting the session. They will participate in discussion on understanding power and control, physical violence, communications, jealously and anger.
CGC originally established an Anger Management Program for men as a result of the growing number of domestic violence incidents in the CNMI.
According to Cabrera, the article about the program that appeared on the July 31 issue of the Saipan Tribune resulted in several inquiries from women interested in participating in the program.
Cabrera said the Anger Management for Women is postponed until further notice. For more information, contact the CGC’s main office at 323-6560 or 323-6561. (Cassie DLG Fejeran)
