Council recognizes Sablan brothers

The 8th Saipan and Northern Islands Municipal Council has adopted a resolution recognizing two brothers serving in the U.S. Armed Forces.

In the resolution, the municipal council lauded U.S. Army Specialist Allen Joe Villagomez and his brother, U.S. Marine Corps 1st Lt. Franklin Villagomez Sablan “for their courage, bravery and determination to uphold the U.S. Armed Forces’ goal to secure peace, freedom and democracy in Iraq.”

According to the resolution, Allen Joe served in Afghanistan from January 2003 to May 2004 and Iraq from January 2004 to May 2004. While in Iraq, Allen Joe served in Alpha Company 2/505 PIR, 82nd Airborne Division. He was also was awarded two Army Commendation Medals for his tour of duty in Afghanistan and Iraq, a Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal and Combat Infantry Badge.

His younger brother, Franklin, is currently in Iraq on his second tour of duty. Franklin’s deployment in Iraq started last month and will be up to March 2005. Franklin works as a Communications/Infantry System Officer. Like his brother, Franklin has also been a recipient of many commendations. He was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, and Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal.

Allen Joe and Franklin are the sons of Joseph Mendiola Sablan and Diana Camacho Villagomez.

The resolution concluded by saying that the members of the municipal council join the people of the CNMI in extending special recognition, congratulation and commendation to Allen Joe and Franklin for safeguarding and protecting the lives of his fellow Americans.

The resolution was certified by municipal council chair Gregorio V. Deleon Guerrero and vice chair David A. Indalecio and attested by secretary Antonia M. Tudela.
