The 5th UFO-San Miguel Cup will resume action on the hardcourt this weekend after given the green light by the Division of Sports and Recreation yesterday morning.

This according to UFO official Roland Pamintuan, who disclosed in an interview that the season’s single round robin semifinal stage would officially unfold this Saturday, Sept. 18 at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.

“I spoke with DS&R director Tony Rogolifoi last week and was not able to get a definite date, but just [yesterday] morning, Joe Mettao [DS&R staff] contacted me and told me we can go ahead with the games,” he said.

After its elimination and quarterfinal rounds, only four teams remain in the hunt for the coveted championship crown, including FASA-CNC Inc, Visminda-Country House, RP Cabalen-Transamerica/ECC Comm., and SIP-Verizon.

Due to the stage being round robin, all four teams will battle each other once before officials can declare who will advance. The two teams posting the best win-loss record will advance to play for the championship, while the other two would have to battle for third place.

Pamintuan disclosed that RP Cabalen-Transamerica/ECC Comm. and SIP-Verizon will take center stage at 7pm on Saturday, while FASA-CNC Inc. and Visminda-Country House will tango at the same time on Sunday.

FASA-CNC Inc. will then square off against RP Cabalen-Transamerica/ECC Comm. the following Saturday, while Visminda-Country House and SIP-Verizon bang heads the next day. Both games are also set to tip-off at 7pm.

FASA-CNC Inc. pounded SMF-Seabridge on Aug. 20 to fill the final semifinal slot and earned the right to play Visminda-Country. FASA has a shot at not only advancing to the season finale, but also avenging their loss to Visminda suffered just six days before beating SMF.

For their part, the RP Cabalen-Transamerica/ECC Comm. won by default over NMBA on Aug. 14, while SIP defeated SMF the day after to earn their semifinal tickets.
