‘Not in my backyard, please’

As I resident of Koblerville, I am writing to register my opposition to the “area in Koblerville” being considered as an alternative site for the Liberation Day festivities, according to your Sept. 22 article.

Your article stated the Saipan mayor declined to mention the exact location of this “area.” However, per my inquiry to the Marianas Public Land Authority, a portion of the old runway immediately adjacent to Tottotville has been designated to the Saipan Mayor’s Office for this purpose. This is not the first time this site has been considered, but the argument against it remains the same: a residential area is no place for daylong ear-splitting music and late night revelry.

As we all know, stage entertainment at the festivities goes on at an obnoxiously high volume morning to midnight, every day for a month. No family should have to battle this. Traffic concerns may be a legitimate reason to look for an alternative site for the festivities, but moving it into a neighborhood would be nothing short of irresponsible.
