PIC serves up fall volleyball season
The schedule for the Miller 4-Person Beach Volleyball League has been released, and with teams that have names like Flush It!, Clam Smackers, and Sleezy Lambleezies, players involved with the sixth annual league should have plenty of fun on the sand courts behind the Pacific Islands Club.
Though the bumps, sets, and spikes will send the Mikasa to su casa in just a couple of days, the season got started this past Tuesday, Sept. 21 during the “beginning of the season” banquet that was highlighted by the team draft.
Team captains were randomly selected by the organizing officials, and then filled their ranks by selecting from 80 players in a draft. This season there will by a total of 13 teams, including a squad from Marianas High School. The Dolphins will be going head-to-head with the rest of the field, led by player/coach Tyce Mister.
The season kicks off this Tuesday at 6pm, when the Dolphins take on Esemuoel, and continues at 7pm when the Bananas meet the Clam Smackers. At 8pm, Shoot the Winkle takes aim at the Sleezy Lambleezies, followed by the final match of the night between the Tell Them Tom Braider Sent You and the Bill Bratzski’s.
Games will be played Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6pm to 10pm through the end of the roughly 11-week season, and although Mother Nature has a hand in making the weather, she won’t have any say in whether or not the games will be played. As with a majority of the sporting events hosted by the PIC, it’s game-on rain or shine.
Each team of seven players will be permitted four players on the court, with the stipulation that one female be on the court at all times.
