Bombing exercises on FDM set next week
A new batch of bombing exercises resumes next week at the Farallon De Mendenilla Island, as part of increased military activities in the Marianas region.
The Emergency Management Office said the exercises would be conducted from Sept. 28 to Oct. 1, from 10am to 8pm daily.
“The general location of this activity will be on the island of Farallon De Mendenilla Training Area (R7201) from 15,000 feet mean sea level (MSL) on a 10 nautical mile radius on all quadrants,” the EMO said in a public advisory.
The EMO warned the public—especially fishermen, commercial pilots, and tour operators—to stay away from the training area during the scheduled bombing exercises.
The batches of bombing exercises have become frequent, following the Pentagon’s plan to transform the Marianas as the United States’ military hub on the edge of Asia.
Recently, the military also conducted helicopter training on Tinian. The U.S. military has also joined military units from allied countries in several bilateral and multilateral joint exercises, including a missile exercise with the Royal Thai Navy.
Earlier this month, French surveillance frigate Vendemiaire visited Guam. The Vendemiaire is a 3,000-ton surveillance frigate equipped with a Panther helicopter. The U.S. Navy said the frigate “is one of six of this class of ships assigned to the surveillance of French overseas naval interests.”
