CREES offers bar coding, other services for local products
The Northern Marianas College Cooperative Research Extension and Education Services is offering its services for bar coding and nutritional and microbiological analysis of food products that are processed locally in the CNMI.
Edgar Cocker, acting associate director for CREES, will be on hand to assist local farmers in bar coding their products for global location and trade identity.
According to CREES director Anthony Benavente, this service is important for many local farmers in the CNMI.
“A lot of our local products like banana chips don’t have bar coding. This [bar coding] helps make it easier to keep track of inventory. Also, in order to export any local products, it is required to have nutritional and microbiological analysis,” he added.
A fee will be charged for the Uniform Code Council and the food laboratory for nutritional and microbiological analysis.
