Brooks wins the week but Hunter still leads
There is no longer any doubt that life as we know it is about to change drastically. The signs are clear, and they began to appear last week when “Big Daddy” Rich Brooks bested the competition—worst to first. They continued when the Boston Red Sox rallied back from a three games to one deficit in the ALCS to beat the Yankees in four straight, followed by a four game sweep of the St. Louis Cardinals in the World Series—worst to first.
Now, for the second week in a row, Brooks has once again out picked the competition last week—the worst was first again.
There is a trend here—a very scary trend. It would seem possible that since Miami is one of the worst teams in all of football, they stand a chance to knock off one of the best in the N.Y. Jets. This formula really doesn’t make any sense, but neither do the events of the last week.
There were plenty of other odd occurrences last week in the National Football League, such as the Detroit Lions knocking off the N.Y. Giants in the Meadowlands, the Jacksonville Jaguars riding into Indianapolis and handing the Colts their second loss, the Miami Dolphins flipping the Rams for their first win of the season, and the Cincinnati Bengals beating the Denver Broncos on Monday Night Football.
The win was no big deal, but how in the heck did the “Bungles” get onto MNF? I can remember the days when only good teams were allowed on national television.
For one reason or another, things just don’t make as much sense as they used to in the NFL, but that’s why William Hunter, John Blanco, Richard Brooks, Jennifer Lee, and Jimmy “Big Tuna” Sablan have returned to try their hands picking the winners.
As previously mentioned, Brooks was the talk of the town last week when he went 9-5 to lead the pack. It’s too bad he didn’t start off like that in the beginning of the season, but he was at least able to even up his last place tally to 43-43.
Finishing with matching 7-7 records were the returning front-runner Will Hunter and Jennifer Lee. The two remain in the top spots, with Will at 56-30 and Jennifer at 55-31, in part because of off weeks by the Big Tuna and John. With a 6-8 card, the Tuna improved to 51-35, and inched further ahead of John, who managed a 5-9 for an overall 49-37. John’s lead over Rich as dropped to a mere six games, and I’ve been told that Rich has already been clearing out a space for John in the cellar.

Will- My pick of the week is the Green Bay Packers—even with all of the challenges that have continued to face Brett Favre. I think Favre and the Green Bay squad are ready to play some football
John-My pick of the week is the Well, looks like the no brainer for this week is the Jets over Miami. Monday Night Football in New York pitting the home team, with a record of 5-1, against a 1-6 team. The fact is that the home team usually wins this Monday contest. The fact that Miami is still singing the blues after their running back left them for God knows what. See where I’m going with this? Break out the gas grills for the tailgate party Jet fans, looks like were having a BBQ complete with Dolphin steaks are on the menu!
Rich- After two great weeks for “Big Daddy”, all I can say is who’s laughing now? You can never count out the under dog because you might get a BITE! My “Big Daddy” sure shot of the week is that Atlanta will make it happen at Mile High this week. They must redeem themselves from the “spanking” they got from Kansas City. Even though Vick was on his game, the “No. 1” rated defense against the rush got left on the bus, because they sure were not on the field. I love my Falcons but the way they played reminded us all of seasons past when only the players families came to the game and they only came because the tickets were free. Watch for the “Dirty Birds” to make a good showing this week at Mile High Stadium in Denver.
Jenn- My best bet is Arizona. Underdogs against Seattle, Arizona came away with a shocking win over Seattle last week, and Arizona looks to push their win streak to two in a row. Buffalo QB Drew Bledsoe is done—put him out to pasture. Bledsoe is probably experiencing the worst season of his career (except maybe that year he busted his jaw). RBs Travis Henry and Willis McGahee have not shown any of the potential that everyone knows they have.
Tuna- My guarantee is that the Pittsburgh Steelers will beat the New England Patriots. I know for a fact that it’ll take the men of steel to hand the Patriots their first major upset. Them Pat’s need to get off their high horses and smell the grass.
