Public School System won its third straight lopsided game, this time embarrassing Procurement and Supply in a count of 101-73 in the 2004 Government Basketball League.

Seeing action in the nightcap of Friday’s regular doubleheader at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium, PSS got going from the opening tip and led 29-11 after the first quarter on the strength of a combined 12 points from center Taj Van Buuren and swingman Gabriel White.

P&S rallied in the second canto behind the six points each of Jack Palacios and Ray Duenas, but the team still faced a double-digit deficit, 36-46, at halftime.

The third quarter was where the ballgame was really won by PSS, as the team outscored P&S 32-20 to take an overwhelming 78-56 spread going into the fourth and final quarter.

It was all she wrote as the payoff period got underway, White and Lashley took turns heating up the net as PSS rolled to the 28-point whipping.

Van Burren banged in 19 to top PSS, while four others finished in double figures. Brothers Jack and John Palacios paced P&S in the loss with 22 and 20 markers, respectively.

In the curtain raiser, Commonwealth Ports Authority finally notched win No. 1 after eclipsing Office of Public Auditor 76-60.

CPA got a huge lift from former national player Jawn Joyner, who led them in scoring with 28 points and also anchored their defense. Ace guard Edgar Pangelinan also shone in the game accounting for 24.

Chris Camacho and Taula Peter led the way for OPA with 14 points apiece.

The lone match Saturday saw Department of Public Safety I send defending champion Northern Marianas College crashing to its second straight setback 109-80.

Elias Saralu waxed hot the entire game lighting up the scoreboard with 44 points. Pint-sized Joe Ito also was a factor contributing 24 points in the win.

Dave Palacios led an undermanned Proa team with 24 points. Kevin Castro added 15.

The government league resumes tomorrow night with CPA going up against NMC in the 6:30pm first game, while the 8pm second game features undefeated Department of Community and Cultural Affairs taking on winless Saipan Mayor’s Office.
