The main gallery of the CNMI Museum of History and Culture in Garapan is currently showing “The Japanese Administration in the Northern Mariana Islands: The Birth of the Industrial Period 1914—1941.”

This special exhibit portrays a seminal era in CNMI history, with photographs and historical artifacts not previously displayed that will intrigue even the most seasoned history buff.

“The exhibit will extend only through Dec. 31, so bring your children, parents, students, colleagues, visitors, and friends to this one-time event before it closes,” a statement from the museum said.

The Museum’s Gift Shop is now featuring, for the first time, memorabilia items from the 60th Anniversary Commemoration of the World War II Battles for Saipan and Tinian. In addition to clothing, commemorative coins, maps, and souvenir items, of special interest is a new stock of books covering a wide range of World War II- and Pacific-related topics. Many of these titles have not previously been available for sale in the CNMI, and new titles are arriving each week.

“If you missed the chance last June to buy 60th Anniversary commemorative items, and are looking for unique Christmas gift ideas, stop by the Museum Gift Shop. Every purchase helps preserve and promote CNMI history!” the statement adds.

The Museum’s Main Gallery and Gift Shop are open Monday through Friday from 9am to 4:30pm, and on Saturday from 9am until noon.
