The luau of the year was recently held at the Tinian Dynasty Hotel and Casino ballroom, as the island’s biggest tourist draw paid tribute to the traditional cultural dances of the region.

There were plenty of hip-shaking dancers adorned in bright colors that gyrated to the compelling beats of wooden drums. It brought to the fore the region’s traditional dances like the Hawaiian hula and Tahitian tamure. There was also some fire twirling to complete the evening’s festive atmosphere.

The amazing part of all of these was Tinian Dynasty didn’t hire an entire production crew in the showcase, as the evening’s entertainment were rendered by their own staff, as well as employees of sister-company Tinian Shipping and Transportation Inc.

Dubbed “Christmas on the Island,” the party had a very distinctive Polynesian and Hawaiian ambience with a modern twist, as traditional dance steps of the South Pacific were performed to Top 40 hits blasting from the venue’s giant speakers.

How could a company staffed mostly by nonresident workers pull off a feat that required some assimilation with the islands? Simple, most of the workers have been living on the island for years now and have made Tinian their home, embracing the culture of the Marianas wholeheartedly.

And to set the night off, a traditional Tinian feast was served to the employees, including roasted suckling pig and tropical fruit platters—the true flavor of the Marianas

Tinian Dynasty Hotel and Casino would like to wish all its local guests and patrons a very merry and safe Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
