Alcaraz is Power Golf’s ace of aces
Joey Alcaraz probably needs a bigger stocking after his Christmas wish was granted when he won Power Golf Club’s Ace of the Aces Championship Tournament held last Dec. 18 at the Kingfisher Golf Links.
Alcaraz tamed the greens and fairways of the Talofofo golf course, firing a net score of six-under 66 to capture the yearly championship of the competition organized and participated on by employees of the Commonwealth Utilities Corp.
The Filipino par-buster carded a 45 in the front nine before firing a 41 in the back for a gross score of 86. The two-year golfer has a handicap of 20.
Ben Norita finished two strokes off the pace with a four-under 68. He swung a 38 in the front nine and a 40 in the back to finish with a gross score of 78. The man they dubbed “Ba Boombox Man” has a handicap of 10.
Patrick Taitano settled for third place after scoring a three-under 79 in 18 holes of golf. He needed 40 strokes to get by the front nine and 39 more to complete the back for a gross score of 79. Taitano sports a 10-handicap.
Alcaraz earned $250 for the victory, while Norita and Taitano went home with $150 and $100, respectively. All three players also got free passes courtesy of Marianas Country Club as well as handsome trophies provided by Power Golf Club.
Sasaki Oliver and Greg Gamboa round out the Top 5. Oliver finished with a 73 after coming up with a 37 in the front and 36 in the back. He doesn’t have a handicap. Gamboa had a net score of 75 following a 47 and 48 in the front and back. Gamboa plays with a 20 handicap.
Oliver and Gamboa won free passes to Kingfisher Golf Links with their fourth and fifth-place finishes.
In the closest to the pin competition, Oliver bagged the prize on hole No. 12, while Greg Repeki won the contest on hole No. 6. Both won free passes to Marianas Country Club.
Edward Kapileo, meanwhile, was tops in the longest drive competition and also won a free pass to Marianas Country Club.
Other members that qualified for the Ace of Aces Championship Tournament were monthly winners Tony Norita (January), Patrick Taitano (February), Edwin Taitano (April), Mr. Kim (August), Mr. Lee (October), and Bill Limes (November).
Power Golf Club would like to thank MARPAC for donating 10 cases of refreshments, and Marianas Country Club and Kingfisher Golf Links for providing free passes.
The organization is also reminding all members that it will hold a general membership meeting two Saturdays from now on Jan. 8 to elect its 2005 set of officers.
