A 42-year-old Chinese man died Saturday afternoon after a big roll of paper fell on him, according to the Department of Public Safety.

DPS spokesman Eric F. David said Monday that the man, a carton forming machine operator, sustained serious injuries to the right side of his body and head, and had a fractured arm, leg, and hip.

The victim was transported to the Commonwealth Health Center where he was pronounced dead by Dr. Rory Mackay.

David said the man, who was employed by Alliance Paper Product Inc. was about to unload rolls of paper from a container shortly after 3pm when the incident occurred. When the container was opened, one roll fell out and hit him.

Upon arriving at the scene, authorities saw a pool of blood in front of the container. A big roll of paper was on the ground near where the blood was found.
