The public is urged to take precaution due to rough seas that would continue through the weekend.

According to the Emergency Management Office and the National Weather Service in Guam, wind generated waves moving southeastward from Japan will contribute to rough seas.

EMO said hazardous surf remains due to a strong northeast trade-wind flow.

“Expect hazardous surf heights of 9 to 12 feet along northwestern clockwise through northeastern exposures,” EMO said.

Today’s forecast for Saipan, Tinian, and Rota features northeast wind of 20 to 25 knots with gusts of up to 35 knots and combined seas of up to eight to 10 feet, rising to nine to 11 feet tonight.

Tomorrow features northeast winds of 15 to 20 knots and wind waves of six to eight feet and northeast swells of seven to nine feet.

The public is advised to avoid venturing to exposed beaches and reef lines due to high risk of rip currents and dangerous surf.

“These two events are life threatening to anyone entering the water,” EMO said. (Shan Seman)
