Mark “The Shark” Halstead definitely smelled a lot of blood Sunday, as he went into a feeding frenzy to win the 2004 Pepsi King of the Lanes Tenpin Bowling Tournament last Sunday.

Halstead was without peer at the Saipan Bowling Center, defeating good buddy Jonathan Hensley before putting on the final touches with a spare-clinching roll in the championship against Noel Sicat.

Upsets were also the order of the day last week. Public School System got the axe when it kissed its perfect season goodbye with a surprise loss to defending champion Northern Marianas College Monday.

La Chai and X-Clusive got the upset trend going when they slew seeded teams in the Saipan Softball Association slow pitch league playoffs at the Oleai Sports Complex on Jan. 15.

Eighth-seed La Chai defeated No. 1-ranked Master Construction Flyers, while fifth-seed X-Clusive outplayed No. 4 Brotherhood.

The past week also saw Sen. Peter Reyes capture the Fil-Taga Golfers Association 2004 Golfer of the Year title, the husband-and-wife team of Russ and Kanae Quinn top the men’s and women’s categories of the DFS Galleria Enticer Triathlon, respectively, last Jan. 15, and Lost Boyz continue their dominance in the Island Wide Volleyball League.
