Capturing the Saipan Golfers Association’s January Ace may not be retired Superior Court judge Ed Manibusan’s new year’s resolution, but it just may be his wish come true.

Manibusan triumphed in the year’s first monthly tournament last Jan. 9 at Laolao Bay Golf Resort Saipan west course after scoring a superb low net of one-under 71.

Coming from behind for second place is SGA treasurer Joe Sablan with a net of even-par 72. Coming in third was Jess Castro, the president of SGA. Castro shot an 83 gross, and with his 10 handicap, wound up with a net score one-over 73.

Manibusan did not stop short of winning other events. He dominated the longest drive competition. Capitalizing on accuracy and distance, the retired judge placed his balls at the most accurate spots on fairways Nos. 2 and 14. The longest drive was courtesy of Jung Eun Taeck.

Other winners during the January tournament were Larry I. Guerrero, scooping the closest to the pin, and longest par-threes on holes No. 7 and 17; Jess Castro, who also closed in on at hole No. 3; and junior golfer James Balajadia, who almost eagled it on hole No. 14.
