THC employees, foundation donate $55K for tsunami relief
Tan Holdings Corp. and its employees from various affiliated companies on Saipan yesterday turned over $23,505 in donations to the Northern Marianas Chapter of the American Red Cross to aid victims of the South Asian tsunami. Half of this amount was donated by THC employees and it was matched by the company through the Tan Holdings Foundation.
This was in addition to another $21,000 that was raised by Concorde Garment Manufacturing Inc. apparel factory employees, which was donated to the Hong Kong chapter of the Red Cross earlier in January.
Further donations of $6,150 were gathered from THC employees on Guam, which will similarly be matched to become $12,300, and will be donated to the Guam chapter of the American Red Cross chapter and UNICEF, according to employee requests.
“We’re really proud and touched by how our employees voluntarily worked together on this fundraising effort,” said THC executive vice president Jerry Tan. “We received donations as small as $1 and as large as $1,000 from one of our Guam-based managers. Our employees do care about fulfilling their social responsibility and their efforts certainly will make a difference.”
Receiving the donations from Tan Holdings on Saipan yesterday was Red Cross executive director John Hirsh. “This is really wonderful. We wanted the fundraising for the tsunami victims to be a grassroots response and it certainly was,” said Hirsh, who noted that the American Red Cross, as a partner in the worldwide Red Cross Movement, is providing much-needed relief supplies, specialized disaster relief efforts and financial assistance to the countries suffering devastation from the December 26th tsunami.
Tan Holdings Corp. is a diverse holding company that operates leading companies in more than a dozen industries in the western Pacific. It is affiliated with Luen Thai, a global business headquartered in Hong Kong. Earlier this month, the company launched a global employee fundraising drive for tsunami relief, which has raised over $110,000 U.S. dollars to date. (PR)
