Tambayan marks anniversary
Tambayan Music Lounge & Restaurant celebrates its anniversary tonight by treating its customers to free food and 50-percent discount on any drink.
Tambayan owner Tetchie Tagorda said the anniversary coincides with her birthday celebration. The Hot Lips Band would provide live entertainment.
Tagorda recalled how she ended up putting up Tambayan on Saipan, after supertyphoon Pongsona caused severe destruction on Guam, where she used to operate a similar business venture in Upper Tumon. She expressed gratitude to Tambayan’s patrons, to whom she attributed the establishment’s survival despite tough economic times.
“People are nice. They enjoy the place,” Tagorda said. The establishment derived its name from the Filipino word tambayan, which literally means “hang out.”
Since its establishment, Tambayan has evolved from being simply a restaurant and bar to a sports and karaoke bar.
Besides offering live band entertainment, Tambayan has pool tables and dart boards for those who love those recreational activities while relaxing with some beer. It also has a magic microphone, which allows those who want to sing to belt out their favorite pieces.
On regular occasions, Tambayan offers free chasers from opening to closing time.
