The indoor volleyball courts of the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium roared back to life on Monday night, as the men of the Island Wide Volleyball League were alive with high-flying action that saw the hottest team in the game fall to one of the most consistent.

After winning big games over the league’s top teams, the Chuukanos (5-5) failed to extend their streak to three when they fell to the talented No Fear (10-2) in three sets of deafening excitement that was decided by just three points.

No Fear continued their push for first place by taking the first set 25-20, as Gabriel White, Taula Peter, Roy Kaipat, and company brought their “A” game, but they were back where they started when Eken Amitaro, J-Luck Takoichu, Ritrick Masawa, and the boys evened the match with a 25-16 win in the second set.

Family and friends of the Chuukanos roared for every point tallied by their heroes, but they were three cheers shy of pulling off the upset, as No Fear increased their win total to double-digits with a 15-12 clincher in the third.

The Managaha Chiefs (10-2) kept pace with No Fear by knocking off the Floaters (3-10) in a two-set sweep, 25-17 and 25-22. Dimas Omar launched four un-returnable serves during the pair of one-sided matches, while Jazz Roscow provided plenty of heat with his four kills.

The team that practices on the little island overwhelmed the Floaters with 12 kills in the first set, and withstood a late-game rally to maintain their second-place ranking over the struggling club.

The Lost Boyz (11-2) regained a bit of their swagger on Monday when they made quick work of Shag (6-6) in two convincing sets to stay a step above the competition. Freddy Pelisamen and the Boyz were too much for the Rocball crossovers, and beat them handily, 25-17 and 25-15.

Pelisamen finished the night with five kills and an ace, while teammate Alex Olopai ended up with two kills and a serve that was laser-esque. Joe Mettao and Kitinan Intharaluk each recorded a pair of kills for the Lost Boyz as well.

The Ol’ Aces (4-9) and the NMC Proa (4-7) played the two tightest games of the night, and the Ol’ Aces were finally able win a close one. The Aces took back-to-back 26-24 sets from the Proa with huge performances turned in by Jack Kabiriel (eight kills and an ace), Dan Barcinas (six kills and two aces), Ron Olopai (four kills), and Dexter Dillay (three kills).
