San Nicolas is Covenant’s choice for Tinian mayoral race
Businessman Jose P. San Nicolas will be the Tinian Covenant Party’s candidate for mayor of Tinian.
Tinian Mayor Francisco M. Borja announced San Nicolas’ candidacy yesterday along with the political party’s bets for the Senate and House of Representatives
Borja, who serves as chair of the Tinian Covenant Party, said incumbent Sen. Joseph M. Mendiola would run for a second term. He would be joined in the Senate race by current Tinian Labor resident director Joaquin H. Borja, while Edwin P. Aldan will run for a seat in the House of Representatives. Borja is presently the chairman of the Tinian Municipal Council.
“I am excited about this year’s election because we have a very competent slate of candidates that make up our team. After investing eight years of hard work and setting the foundation for Tinian’s future growth, I am comfortable to leave my office and the island of Tinian in the hands of these fine individuals,” Mayor Borja said.
San Nicolas welcomed his nomination. “With my diverse experience in government and my proven track record in successful businesses, I believe I can provide the necessary leadership and vital experience to foster economic growth on Tinian. My heart is fully behind improving the living standard of our people and I believe I can deliver this by using my business experience and knowledge to nurture our agriculture and casino industries to its fullest potential,” he said.
He also promised to continue Borja’s plans to uplift the island’s economy. “My team and I will work diligently to ensure that Tinian has a healthy economy that generates ample revenues to provide additional good paying jobs, ensure that the medical referral assistance program is of main priority and guarantee a steady source of funds for the scholarship program. My experience in business has taught me to be proactive to succeed and that I intend to deliver to my constituents when I am elected to office” he added.
Sen. Mendiola, for his part, took time to clarify issues surrounding his candidacy.
“I am honored to be re-nominated as Tinian’s senator for a second term in office by the Covenant Party. There have been a lot of rumors surrounding my candidacy and if I am a [running as] senator for the Covenant Party or not. I want to put that issue to rest now and let everyone know today that I am 100 percent fully behind the Tinian Covenant Party and I believe in my fellow candidates and our shared goals for Tinian. To my constituents of Tinian, I promise to continue my hard work in the Senate to ensure Tinian’s fair representation in all issues facing the Commonwealth.”
Candidates Borja and Aldan said they are also confident and optimistic that Tinian “will enter a new era of hope and success that will achieve the aspirations of the people of Tinian.”
All four candidates of the Tinian Covenant Party intend to unveil their platform and strategy on how they will achieve their goals later this year.
The Tinian Covenant Party, together with Mayor Borja, asked the voters on Tinian for their vote of confidence for “Better Times and a Better Tomorrow.” (PR)
