An approaching tropical disturbance is expected to result in a rapid increase of surf, which is forecasted to peak tonight, according to a joint report by the Emergency Management Office and the National Weather Service on Guam.

With that, the two agencies announced yesterday that its previously issued high surf and small craft advisories remain in effect for Saipan, Tinian, Rota, and Guam.

Trade wind and a mixture of east swell and wind waves will also continue to result in hazardous surf for the Marianas.

Both the NWS and EMO said yesterday morning that after peaking tonight, surf will slightly decrease tomorrow afternoon.

Today’s forecast features east winds 15 to 20 knots and combined seas nine to 11 feet. Also expect scattered and isolated thunderstorms.

Wind intensity is expected to increase tonight at 20 to 25 knots and seas 11 to 12 feet. Seas are also forecasted to be at 10-12 feet tomorrow.

Due to the high risks of the dangerous surf and rip currents, the public is advised to avoid venturing to exposed beaches and reef lines.
