The Saipan Swim Club is hot on the fundraising trail for the 2005 South Pacific Mini Games in Palau, and this Saturday they will be hosting their latest attempt at achieving their goal while providing an aquatic competition, as the 27th Annual Saipan Swim Club Ocean Swim returns to the Saipan Lagoon.

On March 19, swimmers will take to the waters next to AJ’s Bar and Restaurant and choose from swimming one or two laps around the partially submerged Sherman tanks in the traditional event.

“We will be taking late registrations all week via e-mail. Information about the race can be found on our website www.swimsaipan.com. All you have to do is click on the dolphin,” said Saipan Swim Club coach Michael Stewart.

Registrations will be accepted from 7am to 8am on race day on the patio of AJ’s, but the registration desk closes promptly at 8am.

There will be a variety of age categories for swimmers to enter, as participants 8-and-under, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14, 15-19, and the masters report to take part in one of the offered distances.

The 8-and-under swimmers will traverse the 600-meter course, the 9-10 year-olds will race in the 1,000m course, 11-12 will swim 1,300m, the 13-14 and 15-19-year-olds challenge the lengthy 2,500m course, while the masters will have the choice of either the 1,300m or the 2,500m courses.

Following the races, breakfast will be served at the AJ’s Patio, and an awards presentation will come after it.

The cost to enter the fund-raising event is $15, but swimmers may also purchase a commemorative Ocean Swim T-shirt for $12, and attend the breakfast for $10.
