A high school teacher pleaded innocent yesterday to assault and battery and stalking charges filed against him.

Stanley T. Iakopo, a 32-year-old teacher at Kagman High School, pleaded not guilty to all the criminal charges during this arraignment at Superior Court.

He has been charged with three counts of assault and battery, two counts of disturbing the peace, and a count of criminal mischief over an incident on Dec. 31, 2004.

According to Chief prosecutor David Hutton, Iakopo assaulted a woman and Frank C. Tudela, biting Tudela on the face and ear while at J’s Restaurant in Gualo Rai.

Court records also show that Iakopo damaged a flower vase belonging to the establishment, valued at less than $250.

Iakopo was also slapped with charges from another criminal case, including two counts of assault and battery, a count of disturbing the peace, interfering with a domestic violence report, and stalking in the second degree.

Further, court papers show that on Feb 22, 2005, Iakopo spat and punched a female victim. He then interfered when the victim attempted to contact authorities to report the incident.

Hutton also charged the suspect of depriving the victim of her right to peace as well as repeatedly making calls to the victim’s cell phone, confronting and harassing the victim.
