NMC marks 24th anniversary
Northern Marianas College has lined up almost daily events and activities for the month-long celebration of NMC’s 24th anniversary.
Coinciding with the celebration is the observance of NMC Month which comes after Gov. Juan N. Babauta’s proclamation yesterday.
In his proclamation, Babauta recognized the role played by the college as the Commonwealth’s major provider of higher education.
“[I] commend NMC as it continues to provide educational and training services vital to the social and economic development of the CNMI. I urge everyone to support NMC in this observance and to appreciate the value of having a quality post-secondary institution here in the CNMI,” Babauta said.
The month-long celebration will kick off tomorrow with “Ride 2 Cure,” a motorcycle exhibition that will raise funds to benefit the NMC Film School, Commonwealth Cancer Association, and the Diabetes Coalition.
Organizers are also planning a series of forums and workshops on various topics, including the NMC attendance policy, family financial management, campus technology, marketing, and stress management.
On April 18, Monday, the NMC community will get a chance to grill the 2005 CNMI gubernatorial candidates at the “Rock the Vote” Forum.
Sports and health activities will also be held throughout the whole month, to be capped by a fun run on April 30, Saturday.
NMC departments will market their programs and services out to the community through an off-campus college fair from April 25 to 29.
On April 27, NMC president Antonio V. Deleon Guerrero will present the State of the College address.
The much-anticipated Charter Day celebration is expected to be bigger, as organizers expand it to a two-day event. The Charter Day events, which include a custom car show, trivia games, and a band competition, and the Marianas Idol II, will begin on April 29.
