The 8th Saipan and Northern Islands Municipal Council adopted a resolution paying tribute to the late Miguel Basa Pangelinan, or Tan Ge as he was better known.

Pangelinan was lauded for the exemplary service and contributions he made to the sports of softball and baseball. He was recently recognized and honored when the Susupe Softball Field was named the Miguel Basa Pangelinan Memorial Softball Field or simply Tan Ge Field.

Born on Sept. 25, 1936 to Antonio Manahane and Isabel Basa Pangelinan, Pangelinan was husband to Estella Magofna Pangelinan and father to sons Chris and Max.

He volunteered countless hours of time managing and coaching softball and Little League baseball teams locally and abroad.

In recognition of Pangelinan’s exemplary services and contributions to the sport of softball, the 14th Saipan and Northern Islands Legislative Delegation passed House Local Bill No. 14-21, signed by Gov. Juan N. Babauta and became Saipan local law 14-8 officially renaming the Susupe Softball Field in honor of Tan Ge.

The resolution further stated that the members of the Municipal Council and the people of the CNMI are extremely proud and gratified of Pangelinan for his exemplary service and dedication to softball and baseball and naming the Susupe Softball Field in his honor is not only appropriate but also fitting.

The resolution concluded by saying that the members of the Municipal Council and the people of the CNMI join his widow, Estella and the rest of his family members, in prayer to grant the departed soul of Pangelinan and his son Max eternal rest with him in heaven.

The resolution was certified by chairman Gregorio V. Deleon Guerrero and vice chairman David A. Indalecio and attested by secretary Antonia M. Tudela.
